I was driving downhill that bright sunny day. The hillside was green with colorful mountain flowers diffusing their aroma into the fresh, mountain air.
I thought of Clara. She might be waiting but I had decided. I would be happy dating women, but not get passionate about them. Clara was getting close. I still couldn't believe she had asked me to marry her. Women can get funny sometimes!
I stopped to pick up pastries and bread. As I started back, I froze. Clara was standing, staring at me.
"I was waiting, Al."
"Look Clara, let's not get serious about this. I like you, but please, no strings. We're having fun, right?"
"Al, I can't believe you just said this! We're breaking off, are we?"
"Baby, don't get me wrong. I'm not ready for committment just now. We're friends for ever, but please..."
She departed with tears. I couldn't care less. That was the end of me and Clara.
And then.....
Sabrina was introduced to me at a party by one of my earlier dates . We met again at a mall and then at a mechanic's. I had been dating women before but Sabrina was different. Something clicked between us, people call it chemistry or biology, and I wanted to meet her again. The third time I followed her to her office and pretended to have accidently bumped into her. After that it was easy. I asked her out and she agreed.
If she knew I was dating women before , she made no notion of it. We were soon close...very close...
What started as a casual fling was becoming a serious affair. The more I thought about it, the more I liked it. I was beginning to feel a change in me. Stupidly enough, I had fallen in love with her. The fun of dating women was not any more important.
And I decided.
We were driving to her place.
"Sabby , let's get married." I tried to cuddle her close.
"Hey...... Stop the car. I'm getting out!"
"Sabby, listen...."
"Shit! You think you're some kind of casanova! Bloody hell! I wouldn't marry YOU if you were the last man on earth."
I sat frozen in the car, crestfallen. That a girl would reject me ! How could Sabrina do this to me? Me?
Well, I 'd met my match.
I slowly drove back.
To Clara's place. To apologise.
