Hugh had decided to try using an online dating site, even though he was nearly 80, after several crappy dates. He thought things could not get any worse and whilst he knew that people were able to lie about certain things when using a dating site, but he thought he had to give it a go. His wife had always said to try things at least once and after his succession of disastrous dates he thought it was worth using a dating site if only to give it a go.

When his wife died, he thought he would never meet a woman like her and the disastrous dates seemed to prove his point but hopefully using this dating site, he would find a woman who he could share his last days with even if he did not feel for her like he did his Mary. His family and friends had set him up on numerous occasions and it seemed that no one compared to Mary andthat the dates always ended up having nothing in common with him.

The night of the date arrived and Hugh was nervous, mainly because it had been so long since his last date but also because his grandchildren had been teasing him about on-line dating. His eldest daughter told him to ignore them as she picked out his outfit. He began to feel like a child again whilst his daughter acted like his mother had done on his very first date.

He arrived at the restaurant slightly late as he had trouble finding a parking space on the road outside. He began to worry that she may have left or even not turned up. That was not the case . Then he began to wonder if this would be another disastrous date. He did not know whether it was the poor light or not but she looked gorgeous without her glasses on. Once they began to chat he realised she was sane and also in the same position as him, also a widower. They talked for ages and whilst Hugh did not feel the burning passion, he wondered if he ever would again. She was brilliant company, loved the same things as him and also had grandchildren at roughly the same age. Before he knew it he suggested the pair get married if only for the company. She said yes as she too had been waiting for a man like him for company during her last years

This was whenhe realised that he was one of the lucky ones, as he had found his true love already anything else is miraculous in his opinion. While he still loved Mary and would always love her, sharing his life with Sylvia would make things more bearable.
